Description
Portuguese cherry laurel or Prunus lusitanica Angustifolia is a popular and attractive shrub often used for creating hedges. It is an evergreen shrub with glossy, dark green leaves that remain green all year round. This dense and compact growing shrub is a perfect shrub to create privacy around your garden, especially as this plant can grow up to 5 metres tall!
This plant grows up to 40 cm annually and requires little maintenance, prune the hedge between August and September for best results.
When pruning, keep in mind not to do it in full sunlight so that the branches can recover well from the pruning wounds.
It is advisable to prune the top slightly narrower than the bottom, this ensures that the lower branches get enough sunlight.
Another advantage of this shrub is that it is completely hardy and can be placed in both sun and shade.
Potugese cherry ‘Angustifolia’ is not only used as a hedge plant but is also often planted in a pot on the terrace, as the plant also likes to be pruned into a shape.
Think of a nice round spherical shape.
